REGISTERED ICELANDIC SHEEP
FIBER AND BREEDING STOCK

Welcome to Ridge Top Icelandics...

JUNE-JULY 2008

Summer is here in Southwest Wisconsin. Our Icelandic flock is one happy flock. It is especially fun to see them go running down the hill leaping in the air and doing all sorts of aerobatics to outshine each other.

We have a small flock of registered Icelandic sheep. This year we decided not to breed any of the girls, so there are no little lambs, but our yearling ewes will be ready for breeding in November-December this year.

We belong to the Icelandic Sheep Breeders of America (their site is: www.isbona.com , and we are members of the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Association.

Our sheep are registered through the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC).

We are located in Rising Sun which is 2 hours west of Madison and near Viroqua.

Our plan is to raise and sell quality breeding stock and quality fleeces. We raise both registered and unregistered ewes and rams. We have a closed flock and keep strict records on our breeding practices.

This is our 6th year in the government’s Voluntary Scrapie Program which means that the State Veterinarian comes out to visit us once a year and inspects our flock and checks our records.

We welcome any questions or visits to our farm. We want to insure that when we sell any of our sheep that they go to a home that loves this breed as much as we do.

Our E-mail is: ridgetopIce@centurytel.net

If you are new to sheep, here are some of the supplies/equipment you will need:

--woven wire fencing (or welded)
--good hay source (40 lb bale for 10 ewes when there is no pasture available)
